Our Approach to Cookies

This policy is short, because we use very few cookies. There is no advertising, no tracking pixels and nothing on this site that follows you to another one.

The one thing we would like to use is Google Analytics, so we can see which pages are useful. It only runs if you agree to it. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you choose Accept, no analytics code is loaded and no analytics cookies are set.

The typefaces and icons used on this site are served from our own servers rather than a third-party network, so simply loading a page does not tell anyone else that you visited.

What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, so it can recognise your device on a later visit. Cookies can be useful — they are what keeps you logged in to a website, or remembers what is in a shopping basket — but they can also be used to follow people between websites and build advertising profiles.

Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another company whose content is embedded in the page are called third-party cookies.

If you choose Accept in the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics. It sets these first-party cookies:

CookiePurposeExpires
_gaTells one visit apart from another, so we can count visitors2 years
_ga_<ID>Keeps track of the current visit to this site2 years

Google Analytics tells us things like which pages are visited, how people arrive at the site and roughly where in the world they are. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not use it for advertising. Google processes this information on our behalf, and its privacy policy explains how.

If you choose Reject, or do not answer, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.

Remembering Your Choice

We store your answer to the cookie banner in your browser’s local storage, so we do not ask you on every page. This is strictly necessary to respect your choice, so it does not need consent. It is not shared with anyone.

Changing Your Mind

You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link at the foot of every page. If you withdraw consent, we delete the Google Analytics cookies from your browser and stop loading it.

Google Maps on Our Contact Page

Our contact page includes an embedded Google map showing where we are based. It is placed below the main content and only loads if you scroll down to it.

When that map loads, it is served by Google rather than by us, and Google may set cookies or collect information about the request in the same way it would if you visited Google Maps directly. We have no control over those cookies and cannot read them. Google’s own privacy policy explains what it does with that information.

If you would rather not load the map, you can simply not scroll to it. Our full address, telephone number and email address are given as ordinary text on the same page and in the footer of every page, so you never need the map to get in touch.

Enquiry Forms

Our enquiry forms do not use cookies. When you submit one, the details you have typed are sent to us and handled as described in our privacy policy — but nothing is stored on your device.

How to Control Cookies

As well as the Cookie Settings link, every major browser lets you view the cookies that have been stored, delete them, and block them, either entirely or per site. You will usually find these controls under Settings, in a section named Privacy, Security or Site Settings.

All About Cookies is a useful independent guide if you want to read more.

If This Changes

If we change the cookies this site uses, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
